The sound of labor

A series of posters

8:00 a.m. In Starbucks
I am a caffeine fiend. In the early morning, I hear the sound of labor, “Have a great day! “ from workers who get paid bi-weekly and remember my name. I believe that they say this to me sincerely, but I know that they repeat this greeting more than a hundred times each day as a part of their job. It is not a voice, but a repetitive sound of their labor. Every time I hear it, I promise that I will have a great day. It is a promise that is not always kept – but a promise to make again tomorrow.
